We are a translational immunology laboratory focused on understanding the pathogenesis, prediction, prevention and precision treatment of immune-mediated diseases to improve patients’ lives. We have large, complex experimental datasets partnered with detailed clinical data to help better understand disease and improve treatments. We are looking for a talented Scientific/Medical Writer to join our team. The Scientific Writer is responsible for producing and/or editing accurate, clear, and interesting content for manuscripts, grants, reports, lay summaries, white papers, website content and presentations.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform some combination of the following. Apply scientific principles and biomedical knowledge to understand, organize, and describe complex data for scientific, medical, and lay audiences. Coordinate input from a multi-disciplinary team while meeting tight deadlines. Help write, edit and proofread key documents. Maintain familiarity with relevant research, conduct literature reviews, and manage references. Assist with the design, development, and selection of scientific illustrations, tables, and figures. Track manuscript status from conceptualization through publication. Assist with cover letters and associated documents. Assist with letters of support, evaluation letters and other aspects of communication like patient newsletters. Update lab and departmental websites, including newsworthy content. Maintain common-use text describing facilities, resources, human subject sections and standard procedures. Assist with editing and writing grant progress reports, grant sections and collaborative grant documents. Summarize research results for lay audiences and community stakeholders. A senior candidate may assume a leadership role for a Scientific Writing Unit, hosting scientific writing workshops, writing groups and lunch-and-learns for junior investigators and trainees.

Job Requirements

PhD in biomedical science-related field and 2 years’ experience writing and editing scientific publications and grants. Alternatively, a master’s or certification in scientific or medical writing with 2 years’ experience.Ability to meet tight deadlines and work independently on complex tasks.

Attention to detail. Excellent communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Ability to read, analyze and interpret an extensive variety of scientific, technical, financial, and legal documents. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work with a wide array of individuals and to operate effectively in a team setting. Self-starter.

Immunology and/or clinical rheumatology experience a plus.Previous experience with statistics and scientific and/or grant writing strongly preferred. Proficiency in EndNote and GraphPad Prism (or other data visualization programs).Data analysis and/or statistical training or expertise a plus.
